Expedition to India: “Great moral path: great peace-makers Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi”

From 14 to 21 November a cultural and educational expedition “Great moral path: Great Peace-makers Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi” was held within the framework of the Festival of Russian Culture in India.

We developed an expedition programme and designed an event logistic plan for our delegation.

The expedition started in New Delhi, where the delegation took part in a ceremony paying floral tributes at the monument of Leo Tolstoy, and then participated in a meeting in the National

Gandhi Museum at Mani Bhavan. Later the expedition proceeded in Gujarat state, to the city of Porbandar, where the great Indian was born. Presentation of activities of one of the largest centres of the movement for Indian freedom, from where peaceful protests started, Sabarmati Ashram – Gandhi Museum Vhmadabade, became an important milestone. The project completed on the

Memorial Day for Russian classic Leo Tolstoy, on November 20, in Ahmedabad city library, where a bust of the writer is established. The library was opened by Mahatma Gandhi.

Under the framework of the expedition, exhibitions devoted to the life and works of Leo Tolstoy were presented. Considerable attention was paid to bilateral meetings and press conferences.
